Q: How can I or someone I know receive Meals on Wheels?
To refer a senior, complete the Client Referral Form. Referrals for home delivered meal services are contacted by phone, and then a home visit is made to determine eligibility.
Q: What are the eligibility requirements?
- 60 years or older
- A resident of Collin County
- Must be primarily homebound, not able to provide transportation on their own
- Have some physical or cognitive limitation that prohibits ability to shop or cook
- Experience weight loss due to lack of nutrition
- Is unable to access meals at a local Senior Center
- Does not have a paid provider in the home to prepare meals
Q: When do the meals usually arrive?
The meals are normally delivered at lunch time between 10:45 AM and 1:30 PM. Delivery time varies depending on where each client falls on the delivery route. Volunteers do their very best to get the meals to each client in a timely fashion.
Q: How much does this service cost?
Each meal costs the agency $7.00 to prepare and deliver. Our program operates on a donation basis. Clients are provided the opportunity to donate monthly. No eligible client is ever denied a meal based on ability to donate. Family members or friends may make the donation on behalf of the client. All client donations are used to expand the program. Q: Can a volunteer leave a meal at the door if the client or caregiver is not home?
No, volunteers are instructed never to leave a meal without seeing the client. Not only are we delivering a meal, but we also consider this a “well-check” on the client. We want to insure that our clients are safe and accounted for. Volunteers are told to call our office in the event that they don’t get an answer at the door.
Q: How do I cancel a meal if I’m not going to be home during delivery time?
Clients are asked to call 24 hours in advance if at all possible. They must be made 12 hours in advance to ensure a meal is not prepared and set up for delivery. Messages can be left 24 hours a day at 972-562-6996 ext. 113.
