Meals on Wheels Collin County – February 2019
We have started another year and the Meals on Wheels staff appreciates everything you volunteers do to deliver meals to our seniors. We have a few guidelines we would like to share with you to allow us to continue our mission. The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and the Department of Aging and Disabilities Services (DADS) are two government agencies that are large sources of funding for MOW. Funding we receive from these agencies is dependent upon us following these regulations.
1. Each person delivering meals must have a background check and attend an orientation. There are no exceptions! Periodically volunteer services audits volunteer files to ensure everything is up to date. You will be contacted by volunteer services if your volunteer file is missing any information or if you are needing any updated paperwork. If you are an individual that has been delivering meals without being trained or filling out the proper paperwork please contact our office at 972.632.3125 or [email protected].
2. AAA, DADS, and the state Health Department require that the hot food maintain a temperature of 140° and cold food remain at 35° – 45°. All hot food must remain in the hot container with the internal lid in place until ready to deliver to the door. The same applies to the cold food. Please do not separate the meals or combine the hot and cold items until actual delivery at the door. The meals will not retain the proper temperature if this is done.
3. Please fill out the route sheet for delivery correctly. Check off all meals you deliver and if you are unable to deliver. Write the time you delivered the first meal on your route and time for your last meal delivery on the last page of the route sheet. Please sign the last page and print your name on the last page of the daily route sheet. Lastly, circle the time it took you to complete your route.
Thank you for following the above regulations and making sure “No Senior Goes Hunger.”
Congratulations to this month’s volunteer of the month, Karen McLarty!
Karen is an active sub driver, delivering meals for MOWCC for over three (3) years. She primarily delivers in the Allen, McKinney, and Plano areas, however she never turns down a request to help a senior in need. Almost every week we receive a phone call from Karen asking “What route do you need help with today?” Karen has
proven herself, on more than one occasion, to be dependable, reliable, and most of all, she cares about the wellbeing of our seniors. Without fail, Karen has a smile on her face and helps us ensure that our seniors are fed. It is because of outstanding volunteers like Karen that MOWCC is able to continue its mission of ensuring that seniors are feed and remain independent in their homes, families, and communities.
Thank you Karen for all that you do!
Volunteer of the month is selected from the MOWCC database of volunteers. Criteria includes being a volunteer for MOWCC at least 6 months, undertaken all necessary training required, follow all policies and procedures set by MOWCC, and a constant willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. Other factors considered are attendance, participating in special projects, and client compliments. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact volunteer services at 972.632.3125 or [email protected].
MOWCC Volunteer Rock STARS!
On January 15, 2019, many of our volunteers and staff joined together at the American Airlines Center for the Dallas Stars game in support of the MOWCC 50/50 Raffle Night. This is a fundraiser hosted by the Dallas Stars Foundation that raises funds for nonprofit organizations while giving hockey game attendees the opportunity to not only support a great charity but to walk away with a nightly cash prize!
50/50 raffle tickets are sold by Dallas Stars Foundation staff during each Stars home game, and a drawing is held at the beginning of the 3rd period to determine the lucky winner of half the total pot for that game! The other half of the proceeds raised during that game go to the nonprofit of choice for the evening. The jackpot for MOWCC’s raffle night was $9,622.00. Half of that went to MOWCC and the other half went to one lucky winner!
It was because of the hard work and dedication of our volunteers that our jackpot was one of the foundation’s largest to date. We could not have accomplished this without each and every one of you. Thank you so much to our volunteers Sally Haynie, Sherry and Remy Brinkley, Tony Hairston, Kirsta Enneking, Michael Roberts, and Bridget Lee for their dedication in supporting the seniors of Collin County.
Here is the video that was played on the jumbotron during the course of the evening. We hope it reaches your heart as it did so many the night of the game.
